ABOUT HSP

Christmas Offering

The goal of our annual Christmas Offering is to provide nutritious food and Christmas presents to seniors, families and children living in poverty. Every year since 1979, the Humanitarian Service Project has had the loving support of the community which has allowed us to serve so many people in need.

Christmas 2016

We served 136 seniors and 1,903 children with over 10,000 gifts.  In the month of December over 22 tons of food is distributed to seniors, children and their families.

We have seen a 38% increase in the number of people served since Christmas 2014.  This year we expect to see the number of people seeking support from our program to be greater than last year.  With your tremendous support we can rise to the challenge and provide an unforgettable   Christmas to those that need us most.

How You Can Help With Christmas:

Christmas is a magical time of year and it takes many elves, donors, and volunteers to make this program possible.

Sponsor a Family: With your support, we are able to purchase food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank and Caputo’s so that each family will have a large nutritious grocery package including: 15 different varieties of fresh produce, 6 selections of meats, 3-5 loaves of bread and 4 boxes of non-perishables. Each child also receives a minimum of 3 gifts for under the tree.

Sponsorships are available for $70 per family. Click here to help a family today.

  • $140 sponsors 2 families
  • $210 sponsors 3 families
  • $280 sponsors 4 families

Organize A Gift-Giving Tree: We give you the names and ages of low income children, along with popular wish list items. You purchase and wrap at least one new toy or gift for each child and bring your presents to our center where we will distribute them to the families. We suggest a $25 minimum value for each toy for Christmas.

Collect Non-Perishable Food: We distribute non-perishable food to seniors, families and their children.  Can you help us by donating food or organizing a food drive?

Collect or Plan a Toy Drive: New toys and gifts are needed for hundreds of impoverished children. Gifts for 8-15 year-olds are most needed.
