Volunteers
"Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds." President Theodore Roosevelt
Volunteers are at the heart of the work HSP does. With a small staff, volunteers allow us to touch many more lives, extending services to needy seniors and children throughout DuPage and Kane Counties. Whether it is delivering monthly food packages to seniors, wrapping birthday presents, sorting toys or food, or any number of other vital jobs, we depend on our volunteers to make it happen. Please join us and give of yourself to others in need. You won’t regret it!

Wrap Gifts for Children
We provide festive birthday packages to 900 needy children. Birthday boxes are picked up by families, or delivered to the child's school, and are filled with beautifully-wrapped books, toys, and smaller gifts. Local groups and individuals take bags of gifts out of our center and wrap these gifts for HSP using their own paper and ribbon. If you are interested in wrapping presents for the Children’s Birthday Project, please let us know by clicking here. Please note, this is such a popular activity that we suggest that you book well in advance.
Food Sorting
When we have large food drives come in, we need volunteers to help us sort the donated non-perishables. Individuals interested in helping can join our Monday morning team of volunteers! Groups interested can call or e-mail to schedule a time to help. This is, of course, dependent on having the food to sort. Click here to contact us for availability.
Office Volunteer
We invite volunteers to serve as regular office helpers, working closely with staff to keep our service at a high level. Call us to see if your availability might match our needs. Computer proficiency, attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to communicate on the telephone and through personal contact are required. Please call 630.221.8340 for more information. This is an unpaid position, but you will be a vital part of our team.
Grant Writers
Are you looking to make a huge difference for our projects? We are looking for volunteers who excel at writing and researching to help us apply for grants from foundations, businesses, and other organizations.
Volunteer Van Drivers for "Pick-ups"
Do you like driving and have a valid driver’s license? Are you over 25 years old? If so, we could use your help picking up donations such as food drives, toy drives, bread, and items from the Food Bank. Occasionally we look for volunteers to deliver wish list items to seniors such as furniture and computers. Let us know if you would be a good fit for this much needed task (especially around the holidays)!
Toy Room Volunteer
Occasionally we will need volunteers to help out with our Children’s Birthday Project. Volunteers would help pull gifts for children and box them when they come back from being wrapped. These volunteers also sort party in a box kits and other donations as they arrive. Make sure you call ahead for this task because there is not always availability.
