Food Drive

Food Drive Suggestions

HSP provides up to 120 needy seniors with 90 pounds of groceries every month in the Senior Citizen Project, 250 pounds of groceries to 300 needy children during each of the summer months in the Feed the Kids program, and 2-3 weeks’ worth of food to 150 needy families in the Christmas Offering program. Community food drives of nonperishable foods free up limited resources for the purchase of fresh food items including fruits, vegetables and meat. These more expensive items add crucial vitamins and minerals to the diets of these most vulnerable of the poor, seniors and children. Needed items:

  • Boxed Potatoes
  • Main Meals (Beef Stew, Chili, Canned Meat, Canned Tuna)
  • Pancake Mix & Syrup
  • Cereal
  • Canned Fruit and Vegetables
  • Granola Bars
  • Ketchup
  • Mayonnaise
  • Pasta & Pasta Sauce
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Coffee, Tea
  • Crackers
  • Beans
  • Rice

How to organize:

  1. Create a flyer for your group listing items needed or have us send you a copy of ours. Include when and where to drop off and how long the drive will be.
  2. Explain how the food will be used to feed local low-income seniors and children.
  3. Ask grocery stores or companies for donations.
  4. Make it fun! Groups can give each grade, classroom, or department a specific item to collect, and compete to see who collects the most.
  5. Furnish boxes to collect items and check expiration dates on all food.
  6. Deliver food drive items to HSP Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Please call first at 630-221-8340 to let us know when you will be arriving.
