We have a number of seniors who are refugees who have come to this country to seek a better life. They come from parts of the world torn apart by war and poverty and hope to find peace and comfort here. Often, without the language skills and education necessary to get along in this country, the solace they find is limited. That’s why we are more than happy to bring them love and kindness through our Senior Citizen Project. Two such seniors, 67 year old Husein and his 68 year old wife Serita, had already been in the country for five years when we met them but are still struggling with living in a different country. We knew we could be a positive force in their lives, and are so thankful to you, Megan, for your decision to help us bring sustenance to them. We wanted to share some information about them with you so that you could get to know these two wonderful seniors who you’re doing so much to help support.

Husein and Serita, who came to the United States as refugees from Serbia, still have vivid memories of the horror of War. Husein spent his days as a hunter in his youth, but now his health prevents him from taking part in much physical activity. The couple has 3 children, 2 daughters and one son. One of their daughters and their son live here in the United States and the other lives in Bosnia. They occasionally see their children who live here, but their situations are not much better than Husein and Serita’s and they can offer little in the way of support.

The couple suffer from several physical ailments which make their days difficult. Both Husein and Serita suffer from high blood pressure and clinical depression. Serita also has heart problems and Husein recently had to have stomach surgery. The two live off an income of a mere $828. After paying their subsidized rent of $206 and their many medical and utility bills they have very little left over.

Fortunately, they will never have to worry about where their next meal will come from! When we were informed of their condition we were moved to action. They are looking forward to getting 80-90 lbs. of food and personal care items delivered to them each month. We are truly thankful to you, Megan, for joining with us to make this possible. Together we can bring some security to the lives of these two needy seniors, who have not known peace in such a long time.

Things to Remember about Husein & Serita:

• Husein’s Birthday is May 10, 1937
• Serita’s Birthday is May 28, 1937.
• They enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables.
• They like to have roses around their home.
