TIME GRANT WRITER
We are a charity serving low-income seniors, children and families in
DuPage and
Kane
Counties
. We are seeking an individual who will
assist with grant writing for our projects. The
person who fills this position will help with maintaining our current
schedule of writing grants to foundations and researching new
opportunities. Applicant should have strong writing, communication and
computer skills. Accuracy in work is very important. Goal oriented.
Enthusiastic, positive thinking, with a desire to make a difference
especially for the poor.
Accepting local applications only, no travel or relocation allowance.
Part
time 16 hours a week flexible within our office hours of Monday to Friday

INTERNSHIPS
AVAILABLE
The Humanitarian Service Project is
a not-for-profit organization serving 115 low-income seniors by
distributing 5 tons of food each month, 1,200 children with 25 lb.
birthday packages and families in DuPage and
Kane
Counties
. At Christmas 2006 we distributed 23 tons
of food and 12 tons of toys. Our 15,000 sq.ft center is located in
Carol Stream
.
We are offering unpaid internships with the Humanitarian Service Project.
These internships can be designed to fit the student’s schedule within
our regular work hours of Monday to Friday
9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
We would like but do not require a minimum
of 10 - 15 hours a week over a minimum period of 3 months. We are happy to
work with students on the Federal Work Study Program.
DESCRIPTION
OF DUTIES
Interns will assist staff with the following day to day duties, while
gaining experience in how a not-for-profit is managed:

Interviewing and writing
Press Releases for community leaders of organizations that have donated
money or goods to HSP.

Team work responsible for
producing donations of non-perishable food, new toys and books by
contacting school and church service groups for donations.
·
Contacting school, church and
corporate groups to encourage fund raising for sponsorships.
·
Producing annual reports by
interviewing seniors and writing profiles to be sent to sponsors.
·
Research new sources of food
and toy donations.
·
Researching and writing
grants.
·
Interacting with volunteers
QUALIFICATIONS
Computer
proficiency and attention to detail is paramount. Opportunity to enhance
your goal achievement, creative writing, promotion of projects, experience
the operation of a local $1m charity, increase skills in persuasiveness,
articulation, information gathering and making a difference. Ability to
communicate HSP’s goals on the telephone, through personal contact and
in writing when connecting with community leaders. Exercising the skill of
expressing sympathy when calling seniors for annual reports.
Be prepared to work as part of a group networking with community
leaders and groups.
